Know where your traceability records stand before FDA asks.

FDA's food traceability rule (FSMA 204) requires many produce growers, packers and shippers to keep specific records and hand them over fast when asked. Compliance is now expected by July 20, 2028. Tag Verify's readiness check reads the records you keep in Tag Verify and shows where the gaps are, with a link to fix each one.

The readiness check: included with every account

Open the Readiness page in your dashboard and Tag Verify scores the records you have entered, then lists each item as Ready, Improve or Gap. It looks at:

  • A written traceability plan is on file
  • Lot codes are assigned at packing
  • Shipping records carry lot codes, with GTIN and pulp temperature on each line
  • Perishable loads map every pallet by SSCC
  • Cold-chain details are recorded (pre-cooling and temperature recorder)
  • Receiving records exist for what you take in
  • Repacked lots are linked to their source lots
  • Food safety certificates and audits are on file and current
  • You can produce a sortable spreadsheet of your records within 24 hours

Each result says what it found and links to the page where you fix it. Run it as often as you like; the score updates as your records do.

The expert review: included with a paid plan

If you want a second set of eyes, request a review from the Readiness page. It takes one click and an optional note.

  • We get what you saw. Your readiness results are saved with the request, so our food safety team reviews exactly what you were looking at.
  • A person reads it. Our food safety team goes through the results and writes up findings in plain language.
  • You get an email when it's done. The findings appear on your Readiness page. One review can be open at a time, so ask again after you have made changes.

What this is, and what it isn't

The readiness check and the expert review are informational. They are based only on the records you enter in Tag Verify, so they cannot see anything kept elsewhere. They are not an audit, a certification, or legal advice, and they do not guarantee that you meet FDA or any retailer's requirements. They are meant to help you find and fix gaps in your own recordkeeping.
